Today I walked the ramparts of Fort McHenry thinking of the ghosts of the War of 1812, America's military past and my America.
What a wild country. 
The British bombardment of the fort from the Patapsco River in the Battle of Baltimore inspired Francis Scott Key to write a poem sung to the tune of "To Anacreon in Heaven" that became the "Star-Spangled Banner."
